SF Housing Inventory Passes
By July of 2022, landlords will be required to report to the city every year: The approximate square footage of each residential unit, the date of any vacancies over the past 12 months, and each tenant’s base rent. Failure to comply suspends the right to increase the rent.
Why does San Francisco need a Housing Inventory:
San Francisco is experiencing a big housing affordability crisis and there is no real-time, accurate data about rents in San Francisco. This data is already being used privately to maximize profits for banks and realtors as rents continue to rise and more than 30,000 units sit vacant. A public Housing Inventory would help ensure that our rental housing is being used and maintained in compliance with the Rent Ordinance and to help inform policy decisions, such as illuminating ways to make better and more equitable use of our land and housing stock.
