“No-Fault” Eviction Ban (Except Ellis Act) Through 2021
For evictions other than non-payment of rent, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed Ord. No. 210963, which was an extension of previous legislation, that prohibits the eviction of residential tenants through 2021, unless the eviction is based on the non-payment of rent (in which case the nonpayment of rent protections apply), or health and safety issues or the Ellis Act. There is a possibility that state law preempts this local law. There will be a final vote but this legislation is expected to pass as there are enough votes to override a Mayoral veto.
