Right-To-Organize Passed by SF Supervisors
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously passed an ordinance requiring landlords to recognize the right of tenants in buildings with at least five units to organize. The ordinance, introduced by Supervisor Aaron Peskinin October of last year, also requires that landlords or a representative meet with the associations up to four times a year — once a quarter — at their request, and confer with associations “in good faith.”
Tenants of landlords that refuse to comply or interfere with the organizing activities outlined by the ordinance could use that failure as grounds to file for a rent reduction with San Francisco’s Rent Board, per the ordinance.
