Ellis Act Increase in Relocation Payment
The Ellis Act legislation has been amended in San Francisco to include higher relocation payments since the City’s Budget and Legislative Analyst issued a report confirming that the previous relocation payments did not cover the adverse impacts of being displaced by the Ellis Act. Starting September 1, 2022, the relocation payment will be $10,000 per eligible tenant up to $30,000 per unit with an additional payment of $6,700 for senior (age 62) and disabled tenants (generally, disability being defined as” having a condition that limits a major life activity,” California Government Code Sections 12955.3 and 12926). These amounts to be adjusted annually by the Consumer Price Index and available from the SF Rent Board, see document 577.
