Housing Justice Groups Demand Mayor Breed Use Prop I Funds For Affordable Housing as Intended

The Anti-Displacement Coalition (which includes the San Francisco Tenants Union) called on Mayor Breed to use Prop I funds which were intended by the voters for affordable housing. From Housing Rights Committee of San Francisco:

At a hearing this month, HRCSF and other tenant rights groups with the San Francisco Anti-Displacement Coalition called on the Mayor to use Prop I funds to build much needed, truly affordable social housing. Thus far, Mayor Breed has made no indication that she will follow through with voters’ intentions for Prop I nor listen to housing justice groups. This silence comes on the heals of her promising to give even more funds to the SF Police Department despite an enormous need for the city to invest in truly affordable housing. The newest housing element report shows that we are still drastically over building market-rate units while under building units for low-income San Franciscans. If we don’t get on track to meet new state-mandated affordable housing goals, we could lose state funding for it due to a bill put forth by Senator Wiener, even though the state offers no specific funding to help meet these goals.
